In Comic Book Easter Eggs, I share with you comic book related “easter eggs.” An easter egg is a joke/visual gag/in-joke that a comic book creator (typically the artist) has hidden in the pages of the comic for readers to find (just like an easter egg). They range from the not-so-obscure to the really obscure. So come check 'em all out and enjoy!
Reader Mickey G. wrote in to suggest an amusing collection of easter eggs from a 2010 issue of “New Mutants”. I had mentioned this when it happened in Comic Book Legends Revealed, but I guess I might as well feature it here, as well!
In “New Mutants” #17 (by Zeb Wells and Leonard Kirk), Cannonball's branch of the X-Men consisting of former members of the New Mutants (Cyclops let him pick his own team of X-Men and he chose his old teammates) were called into Limbo by their teammate, Magik.
During the issue, there are a bunch of demons working with Magik and they are speaking a demonic language that Cypher (the New Mutant member who can translate any language) translated a couple of times. Robert Plass of Alpha Flight Collector managed to use the translations to form a translation guide.
Using said guide, he came up with some translations of the non-translated stuff and they're pretty surprising (and hilarious). Check them out…
“See that guy's balls?” “Yeah…they were weird.”
“Hey, dick-breath.”
“Pork Chop!”
“F**k nuts!”
Hey, they ARE demons, after all, it's natural that their dialogue might be a bit…colorful!
Thanks to Mickey G. for suggesting I feature this one. Thanks to Robert for the translations!
