Captain Picard and his crew have long been charged with seeking out new life and new civilizations, but they are about to have a close comic book encounter with a very different kind of Alien – one that has concentrated acid for blood that is capable of wiping out an entire squad of colonial marines with ease.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, publishers IDW and Dark Horse, holders of the comics licences for “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Aliens,” respectively, plan to pit the two franchises against each other in a team-up subtitled, “Acceptable Losses.”
The ominous-sounding project is set to be written by Scott and David Tipton, with art by J.K. Woodward, a team that previously worked together on IDW's 2012 series, “Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimiliaton².” That series saw the Time Lord and Trek crew contend with both the Borg and the Cybermen. While plot details for the Trek/Aliens series have not yet been released, is it possible we will see the Borg attempting to assimilate the xenomorphs?

While this match-up has been on the minds of many fans for a while now, the series does raise the question of how the viscerally violent tone of the “Aliens” films will play in a “Star Trek” universe. It seems we will soon find out.
“Star Trek: The Next Generation Vs. Aliens: Acceptable Losses” is due to hit stands sometime in April 2017.
