Mr. Bean Comics Coming Spring 2017

Mr. Bean Comics Coming Spring 2017

Dabel Brothers Publishing has announced a comic series based on the British TV comedy, “Mr. Bean.” The first issue will be released in spring of 2017. It will be illustrated by Ricardo Jaime, who has previously worked on “Grimm Fairy Tales.” No other members of the creative team were announced in the press release.

Created by Rowan Atkinson and Richard Curtis, “Mr. Bean” premiered on the British channel ITV in 1990. The 14-episode series was nominated for a number of BAFTA awards, and the first episode won the Rose d'Or. “Mr. Bean” has since been aired in more than 190 territories around the world, including the United States. The character has also appeared in other mediums, including a 2002 animated series, two feature-length films – and even the opening ceremonies for the 2012 London Olympics.

Dabel Brothers Publishing has previously adapted a number of licensed properties for comics, including George R.R. Martin's “The Hedge Knight,” Laurell K. Hamilton's “Anita Blake” series, and Robert Jordan's “The Wheel of Time” series. In 2009, they signed a deal with Dynamite Entertainment by which Dynamite would “assume creative development, production, printing, marketing and sales for all titles handled by Dabel Brothers Publishing,” so it is likely that the “Mr. Bean” book will fall under this umbrella, but it has not been confirmed.
