There's just something about Spider-Gwen that calls to me. From the ways the spider legs are incorporated to the color palette, that whole suit just pops. That style carries through to the main book itself to a degree, and helps Gwen stand out from most other books on the shelf at the LCS. That and the crazy, cool kinetic art of Robbi Rodriguez.

I'm guessing that's a bit of what inspired Allegra Town Studio to craft this little fan animation of Spider-Gwen. The hyper pace, the vivid colors; everything that makes Spider-Gwen awesome is all there. And they did it in just seven seconds.

As anyone who knows me can attest, I'm a pretty big fan of Christmas, and this time of year, I start going through my set of holiday traditions. There's the usual ones, of course, like decorating the tree and opening the Advent Calendar, but I've also got a few of my own, like the traditional Christmas Eve slice of pie at the Waffle House. But the ones I look forward to most of all are the round of Christmas specials I watch every year. The centerpiece, of course, is a 1967 episode of Dragnet called "The Christmas Story," where Joe Friday investigates the theft of a statue of Jesus from a church on Christmas Eve, but for me, the Christmas season just isn't complete without a viewing of the Xena: Warrior Princess episode "A Solstice Carol." Tis the Season for Infamy in the Final Batman: Arkham Knight Add-On

The time has come. Despite activating the Knightfall protocol at the conclusion of Batman: Arkham Knight's story, four more villains have surfaced calling Batman back to the streets of Gotham to finish the job he started. As the final downloadable content pack for Batman: Arkham Knight, "Season of Infamy" brings back some familiar faces from Batman's rogues gallery (and previous Arkham games) for one last go-round with the Dark Knight. Though Arkham Knight's add-on content has been a bit of a disappointment to this point, the trailer for this finale does show promise. Encounters with Mr. Freeze in the Arkham Universe have been among the series' best, and the return of Killer Croc and Mad Hatter should make for some interesting missions, too. However it's the return of Ra's Al Ghul that presents the most promise, as Batman's most formidable foe barely got any play the last time he showed his face in an Arkham game. Continue reading…

Jason Fischer Shares The Life Of A Drawing Assistant In 'Seconds Helping'

If you read Bryan Lee O'Malley's 2014 graphic novel Seconds --- and given that it was one of the most anticipated comics of that year, chances are you did --- then one of the first things you may have noticed that differentiated it from Scott Pilgrim was that O'Malley wasn't the one-man band he was on his name-making graphic novel series. While O'Malley still wrote and penciled all of Seconds, the title page credits three other contributors: colorist Nathan Fairbairn, letterer Dustin Harbin, and drawing assistant Jason Fischer. Those first two job titles will be familiar to anyone who has followed mainstream American comics, as they're among the handful of credits that appear in most of the books created in the chopped-up, parceled-out system established in the Golden Age. Next year will see a new ongoing series over at Oni Press, with the creative team of Christopher Sebela, Robert Wilson IV and Nick Filardi combining for the off-kilter romance series Heartthrob. The story is about a terminally ill woman called Callie who is offered a last-chance heart transplant that saves her life --- but then turns out to have a few unexpected side-effects. After fully expecting her life to be over, Callie struggles to get used to her return to a normal working life... until she comes into contact with Mercer, an enigmatic (and handsome!) man who turns her newfound life upside down.

Heartthrob is a strange, funny comic, one that forges a deep connection between the characters and readers --- and it's clearly is a personal work for Sebela in particular. To explore the story further, we spoke to him about how he first developed the concept, what motivates and drives Callie as she experiences the strangest romance imaginable, and what readers can expect from the story as it moves forward.

Prez is an ongoing political satire set in a world so bonkers it could only be an outgrowth of our own. Satire has to sweat to keep up with a 2015 where a reality TV star who looks like he angered his barber has a chance at being elected President of the United States, and the creators of Prez decided the best way forward was to look back to the 1970s, to the Prez series by Joe Simon and Jerry Grandenetti.

The eclectic cast of the new series includes Tina, the President's Christian transgender robotic bodyguard. Is this a well-intentioned attempt at diversity and crafting an interesting supporting character, as with the original series' Eagle Free, FBI director? Or does it miss the mark, as with the original's Eagle Free, FBI director?

If you take a quick look through the archives here at ComicsAlliance, one of the first things you're going to figure out is that I like John Ostrander, Kim Yale, and Luke McDonnell's classic run on Suicide Squad a lot. It's one of my all-time favorite comics, and while it never quite seemed to get the recognition of contemporaries like Justice League International, it ended up forming the foundation of a big chunk of how DC would approach storytelling in the modern era. And now, after years of being relegated to dollar boxes, it's finally seeing print thanks to the upcoming movie. But that's all stuff that you know already, and to be honest, if I haven't convinced you that these are stories you should be picking up by now, there's a good chance that nothing I could say here is going to change your mind. DC Reveals Variant Covers for 'Dark Knight III' #2 by Lee, Chiang and More

The second issue of the still mindblowingly titled Dark Knight III: The Master Race arrives in comic book stores on Wednesday, December 23rd, and DC Comics has just revealed five limited variant covers by Cliff Chiang, Klaus Janson, Eduardo Risso, Jim Lee, and Frank Miller himself.

January 20th sees the return of the one true Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, to a solo title. The book is written by Agent Carter showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, with art by Kris Anka (Uncanny X-Men). After a series about her adventures on Earth, followed by a series about her adventures in deep space, this third volume of Captain Marvel finds Carol in orbit. She's leading a new version of Alpha Flight, which seems to be replacing SWORD as Earth's first defense against alien attacks.

We don't see the team in this preview, but we do see Abigail Brand, sporting some questionable sunglasses and one of those amazing Kris Anka sneers.

Marvel is celebrating Women's History Month in March 2016 with themed covers, which they've dubbed Women of Power Variants. As we can see in the four images they've released so far, the covers will be portraits of Marvel's female characters. Many of the artists involved are also women, including stars like Sara Pichelli, Annie Wu, and Erica Henderson. The male artists participating seem to be those who have previously displayed an ability and willingness to depict women with respect and agency, such as Phil Noto, Kevin Wada, and Jamie McKelvie.

Hot Toys Reveals Seventy Billionth Iron Man Armor, the Gamma MK XXVI

You mean to tell me there was still an Iron Man armor Hot Toys hadn't released? I'm shocked. Shocked, I say. At this point, the only thing surprising about this release is how late in the game it was announced. There were a bajillion armors in Iron Man 3, and Hot Toys had been putting them out with some regularity up until all the Star Wars reveals. That's when the Stormtroopers became the new Iron Men, with all the slight variations on almost identical sculpts. For all the completionists out there though, the arrival of one of the few remaining armors from Shane Black's masterpiece (yeah, I said it) should be good news. I know I like to give Hot Toys a lot of guff over the number of Iron Man armors, but reusing molds like they have with the Iron Man MK XXVI (a repaint of the MK XXV) is smart business. Molds are expensive, and anytime companies can reuse them for similar figures just makes it that much easier on them to give us long-running lines and more variation in other departments. It's a tactic every toy company uses, though when it's for $15-20 figures it's not that big a deal. When a figure costs nearly $300 and it's just a reskin of one that came out before (with a much nicer paint job, in my opinion) it's a little harder to swallow. Especially in the wallet. 'Samurai Jack' Is Returning To Adult Swim In 2016

Good news for people who love time-displaced samurai and stylish techno-fantasy dystopias but hate all-powerful demonic overlords: Samurai Jack is making its way back to television next year, and creator Genndy Tartakovsky is coming with it.

The new series will continue the original run, which aired for 52 episodes between 2001 and 2004 and introduced the world to a warrior nicknamed "Jack" who was tossed through time into a future where his arch-nemesis, the demon Aku, had taken over the world. The show quickly gained a fan following for its moody, stylish storytelling and episodic adventure through a variety of settings, where dialogue could be kept to a minimum to keep the emphasis on its stunning visuals.

In a career that spanned six decades, he was was one of the greatest and most prominent fantasy artists, providing some of the most iconic images of the sword-and-sorcery genre --- including a beautifully painted cover for the Conan story Rogues in the House, in which Conan wrestles a gorilla that thinks it's a wizard. For collectors, Frazetta's original art has been a little difficult to come by, usually being sold through private sales. There are few creators in the history of Batman who have had a greater impact on the character than Paul Dini. As one of the showrunners of Batman: The Animated Series, he shaped not only how a generation of television viewers would view Batman, the Joker, and Gotham City's other heroes and villains, but also how the comics would be influenced for decades after the show's launch.

Behind the scenes, though, it seems as though 1993 was a rough year for Dini's relationship with Batman, owing to a violent mugging that left him with a broken skull and his faith in the ideas behind superheroes shattered. Now, as revealed at The Hollywood Reporter, Dini is revisiting that trauma alongside artist Eduardo Risso in a new graphic novel from Vertigo, Dark Night: A True Batman Story.

Children's Holmes: Roger Langridge and Andy Hirsch Introduce the 'Baker Street Peculiars' [Exclusive]

Sherlock Holmes is surely one of the most versatile characters in fiction; he can be updated, reinvented, pitted against vampires, or reimagined as a mouse, and still the essential qualities of the great detective endure. That's even true in stories where Sherlock Holmes isn't Sherlock Holmes, and that's an idea that Roger Langridge and Andy Hirsch will explore in their upcoming all-ages adventure series The Baker Street Peculiars, from Kaboom, unveiled exclusively here on ComicsAlliance.

In the Baker Street Peculiars, there is no Holmes; the real brains of the operation is his supposed housekeeper, Mrs Hudson. With too many cases to solve, she's brought in some new help in the form of three precocious kids and a dog, for what promises to be a wonderful all-ages action comedy. Roger Langridge, who usually provides his own art for books like Fred the Clown and Abigail and the Snowman, is providing the scripts this time around, joined by artist Andy Hirsch, best known for his work on Adventure Time and his all-ages Western Varmints. Langridge and Hirsch spoke to ComicsAlliance about working together, the idea for the series, and what makes Sherlock Holmes so iconic.

There have been numerous attempts at reviving the franchise in the gaming space, with Nickelodeon and its partners even going so far as to slap new, high-definition coats of paint on titles fans considered classics. Though the franchise has had tremendous success reinventing itself for different animated audiences, that just hasn't translated to the video games. There is hope, however. A new ratings listing from the Australian Classification Board hints that a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game is on the way. Ordinarily, that would be news, but it wouldn't necessarily be something to be excited about. 'Ghost in the Shell' Virtual Reality Experience Makes You the Ghost in the Shell

It doesn't seem possible that consumer-friendly virtual reality is on the verge of breaking through the shackles of science fiction and into the real world, but we're entering into a brave new world of immersive interactivity with the release of Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear and even Google Cardboard. While each of those VR platforms has its own strengths and weaknesses, that there are multiple manufacturers vying for your attention in the same space (with more like PlayStation VR, SteamVR and StarVR still to come) speaks volumes about how viable virtual reality has become in the last few years.

Aside from the potential gaming aspects, virtual reality presents some interesting opportunities for narrative immersion as well. We've already seen Star Wars take advantage of that a bit with its recent Jakku tour, but the landscape is wide open for the likes of movies and animation to give fans and viewers an even closer look at the worlds being created on screen. Such is the case with the upcoming Ghost in the Shell VR short, Ghost in the Shell Virtual Reality Diver. Set in the world of Ghost in the Shell: Arise, the short will be an on-rails experience that lets you tag along with Major Kusanagi through some select scenes curated for VR.
