'Deadpool' Photos Show Off Negasonic Teenage Warhead's X-Men Uniform, Dusty Angel Dust
Surprise! More new Deadpool photos have arrived online. Although the 12 Days of Deadpool came to an end with the red and green band trailers on Christmas Day, even more photos and details from the Merc With a Mouth’s R-rated solo outing have been popping up daily since then, with the latest batch of photos showing off an X-Men connection and a very dusty Angel Dust.
Thanos Won't Be Making an Appearance in 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'
After lazily attempting to thwart our heroes from his space-throne in Guardians of the Galaxy, it looks like Thanos will be sitting the next one out, as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has revealed that the Mad Titan won’t be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. So, when will we see him again?

Enjoy the Awesomeness of Spider-Gwen With Just Seven Seconds of Animation
There's just something about Spider-Gwen that calls to me. From the ways the spider legs are incorporated to the color palette, that whole suit just pops. That style carries through to the main book itself to a degree, and helps Gwen stand out from most other books on the shelf at the LCS. That and the crazy, cool kinetic art of Robbi Rodriguez.
I'm guessing that's a bit of what inspired Allegra Town Studio to craft this little fan animation of Spider-Gwen. The hyper pace, the vivid colors; everything that makes Spider-Gwen awesome is all there. And they did it in just seven seconds.

CW Assembles 'Justice League' and 'Legends' TV Specials With New 'Suicide Squad' Trailer
There’s no arguing that DC Comics maintains a stronger foothold on TV than Marvel, but 2016 will be a huge year for the former’s cinematic exploits as well. To wit, The CW has arranged two new TV specials for January, the first to preview Arrow-Flash spinoff Legends of Tomorrow, followed by a look at Batman v. Superman’s Justice League future, as well as a brand-new Suicide Squad trailer!

'Luke Cage' Confirms Origin Flashbacks, Harlem Music Influence
Even as 2016 turns Marvel’s focus back from Jessica Jones to Daredevil Season 2, we’re still looking for a bead on the next Defender to come our way, Luke Cage. We got a taste of his origins from Jessica, but now Mike Colter himself confirms flashbacks to come, as well as a unique musical presence to the series, both in artists contributing to the score, and the Harlem setting overall.

Q: How do the holiday mythologies compare between Marvel and DC? -- @crcovar
A: How did you know, Crovar?! Another excuse to drop nine thousand words about the underlying differences in the structure of imaginary universes and how they've affected their storytelling over the past seventy years? It's exactly what I wanted for Christmas!
Nah, I'm just kidding. We can probably get through this one in five or six thousand. Seven, tops.

A True Tale Of St. Nicholas From Benito Cereno And Evan 'Doc' Shaner [Original Comic]
Here at ComicsAlliance, there are a few holiday traditions that we look forward to all year, and chief among them is our yearly visit from writer Benito Cereno to tell us a true Christmas story from the life of St. Nicholas. Previously, he and Anthony Clark told us the tale of Catalonia's Tio de Nadal, but this year, things are a little more monstrous.
So enjoy the art of Evan "Doc" Shaner as he and Benito bring you the tale of Klaubauf, a Bavarian variant of the Krampus who baked children into pies!

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the saviors of bad franchise ideas, achieving the impossible and making believers of even the most skeptical among us — from 21 Jump Street to The LEGO Movie, these guys have turned dumb concepts into great films. For their next trick, the pair are working on an animated Spider-Man movie (no relation to the new live-action reboot) and a young Han Solo prequel for the Star Wars series. The former will now hit theaters just a little later than originally planned, but judging by their previous work, it’ll be worth the wait.

Christopher Sebela Operates a High-Concept Romance in New Oni Series 'Heartthrob' [Interview]
Next year will see a new ongoing series over at Oni Press, with the creative team of Christopher Sebela, Robert Wilson IV and Nick Filardi combining for the off-kilter romance series Heartthrob. The story is about a terminally ill woman called Callie who is offered a last-chance heart transplant that saves her life --- but then turns out to have a few unexpected side-effects. After fully expecting her life to be over, Callie struggles to get used to her return to a normal working life... until she comes into contact with Mercer, an enigmatic (and handsome!) man who turns her newfound life upside down.
Heartthrob is a strange, funny comic, one that forges a deep connection between the characters and readers --- and it's clearly is a personal work for Sebela in particular. To explore the story further, we spoke to him about how he first developed the concept, what motivates and drives Callie as she experiences the strangest romance imaginable, and what readers can expect from the story as it moves forward.

Lost in Transition: 2015's 'Prez' And A Robot Named Tina
Prez is an ongoing political satire set in a world so bonkers it could only be an outgrowth of our own. Satire has to sweat to keep up with a 2015 where a reality TV star who looks like he angered his barber has a chance at being elected President of the United States, and the creators of Prez decided the best way forward was to look back to the 1970s, to the Prez series by Joe Simon and Jerry Grandenetti.
The eclectic cast of the new series includes Tina, the President's Christian transgender robotic bodyguard. Is this a well-intentioned attempt at diversity and crafting an interesting supporting character, as with the original series' Eagle Free, FBI director? Or does it miss the mark, as with the original's Eagle Free, FBI director?

DC Reveals Variant Covers for 'Dark Knight III' #2 by Lee, Chiang and More
The second issue of the still mindblowingly titled Dark Knight III: The Master Race arrives in comic book stores on Wednesday, December 23rd, and DC Comics has just revealed five limited variant covers by Cliff Chiang, Klaus Janson, Eduardo Risso, Jim Lee, and Frank Miller himself.
Unsurprisingly, all five of the cover artists are male, but at least three of them are people of color. I don't know that that mitigates the stigma of the series title, but hey, it's something.

The Power of the Dark Side: The Best 'Star Wars' Villains Fan Art Ever
For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times. Before the Empire. And what an Empire it was!
Just as the Star Wars universe is lauded and loved for its heroes, those heroes would have no way to prove their bravery and valor without the best bad guys in the galaxy. Sure the Joker and Loki are incredibly popular, but Star Wars has the power to take characters with one or two lines of dialogue and make them full blown cultural icons. Or make dozens of highly sought after action figures based on characters with zero lines of dialogue who do little more than briefly stand around in the background. Vader famously said, “You don’t know the power of the Dark Side”, but let’s celebrate that power with this small collection of fan art and see if we can’t get a better idea.

Carol Danvers Gets A Haircut, Punches Asteroids In 'Captain Marvel' #1 [Preview]
January 20th sees the return of the one true Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, to a solo title. The book is written by Agent Carter showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, with art by Kris Anka (Uncanny X-Men). After a series about her adventures on Earth, followed by a series about her adventures in deep space, this third volume of Captain Marvel finds Carol in orbit. She's leading a new version of Alpha Flight, which seems to be replacing SWORD as Earth's first defense against alien attacks.
We don't see the team in this preview, but we do see Abigail Brand, sporting some questionable sunglasses and one of those amazing Kris Anka sneers.

Holly Black And Lee Garbett On The Holy Resurrection Of 'Lucifer' [Interview]
After many years away, the charismatic, unflinching Lucifer returns to Vertigo Comics, where he first appeared as part of the supporting cast of Sandman. A lot has changed since that time, but it looks as though he remains the same magnificent bastard that inspired some of the best creative work Vertigo has ever seen. This new series, from Holly Black and Lee Garbett, brings the character to Hollywood, and kicks off with the grandest murder mystery imaginable: the death of God. With the Almighty murdered, all suspicions turn towards Lucifer as the culprit --- forcing him to come out of the shadows to clear his name.
Taking the character brought so vividly to life in his outstanding prior series by writer Mike Carey and artists including Peter Gross and Ryan Kelly, and returning him to an ongoing series is a tough job. To find out more about what Black and Garbett plan for the character, ComicsAlliance spoke to them both about his imminent resurrection.

Marvel Announces Variant Covers for Women's History Month
Marvel is celebrating Women's History Month in March 2016 with themed covers, which they've dubbed Women of Power Variants. As we can see in the four images they've released so far, the covers will be portraits of Marvel's female characters. Many of the artists involved are also women, including stars like Sara Pichelli, Annie Wu, and Erica Henderson. The male artists participating seem to be those who have previously displayed an ability and willingness to depict women with respect and agency, such as Phil Noto, Kevin Wada, and Jamie McKelvie.
Frank Cho, it seems, was not invited.

Take A Behind-The-Scenes Look At 'A Charlie Brown Christmas'
This year marks the 50th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas, the 1965 television special that combined Charles Schulz's Peanuts characters, the jazzy music of the Vince Guaraldi Trio, and an honest look at the melancholy of the season, to become one of the most beloved and enduring holiday specials ever. It's a big anniversary, and that makes this year a better time than than most to talk about how it all came together.
The folks at Mashable have done just that with a look behind the scenes of the television special, including animation cels and an original script page that are more than worth your time to check out.

The Band Gets Back together in 'A-Force' #1 [Preview]
A-Force, an all-woman take on the Avengers written by G. Willow Wilson and Marguerite Bennett with art by Jorge Molina, was one of the most anticipated books of the Secret Wars crossover. Of course, it didn't turn out to be quite what readers expected, since Battleworld was populated with alternate versions of everyone's favorite characters, rather than the originals.
But now that Secret Wars is over (or at least, soon will be) Wilson and Molina are giving us exactly what we wanted: a team of powerful women set in our preferred Marvel Universe. The new A-Force #1 will be available January 6th and features Singularity, She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Dazzler, Medusa, and Nico Minoru.
'Samurai Jack' Is Returning To Adult Swim In 2016
Good news for people who love time-displaced samurai and stylish techno-fantasy dystopias but hate all-powerful demonic overlords: Samurai Jack is making its way back to television next year, and creator Genndy Tartakovsky is coming with it.
The new series will continue the original run, which aired for 52 episodes between 2001 and 2004 and introduced the world to a warrior nicknamed "Jack" who was tossed through time into a future where his arch-nemesis, the demon Aku, had taken over the world. The show quickly gained a fan following for its moody, stylish storytelling and episodic adventure through a variety of settings, where dialogue could be kept to a minimum to keep the emphasis on its stunning visuals.

'Agent Carter' Season 2 Pushed Back Two Weeks, Thanks Obama
The impending 2015 close of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. at least meant that Agent Carter would return for Season 2 before long, but it seems a force higher than S.H.I.E.L.D. or the SSR will keep Peggy out of the limelight a few weeks. The Agent Carter Season 2 premiere has been pushed back a few weeks, owing to the January 12 State of the Union address. Peggy will not be pleased.

Eddie Liu Imagines Heroes in Their Golden Years
We tend to think of superheroes as forever young, so there's something very striking about artist Eddie Liu's paintings, which imagine four Justice League members as senior citizens. Unlike the sort of thing we saw from Alex Ross in Kingdom Come, these elderly heroes look less spectacularly heroic, and more like old people tend to actually look, right down to some questionable mustache choices.

Vertigo Announces 'Dark Night,' A New Batman Graphic Novel From Paul Dini And Eduardo Risso
There are few creators in the history of Batman who have had a greater impact on the character than Paul Dini. As one of the showrunners of Batman: The Animated Series, he shaped not only how a generation of television viewers would view Batman, the Joker, and Gotham City's other heroes and villains, but also how the comics would be influenced for decades after the show's launch.
Behind the scenes, though, it seems as though 1993 was a rough year for Dini's relationship with Batman, owing to a violent mugging that left him with a broken skull and his faith in the ideas behind superheroes shattered. Now, as revealed at The Hollywood Reporter, Dini is revisiting that trauma alongside artist Eduardo Risso in a new graphic novel from Vertigo, Dark Night: A True Batman Story.

Children's Holmes: Roger Langridge and Andy Hirsch Introduce the 'Baker Street Peculiars' [Exclusive]
Sherlock Holmes is surely one of the most versatile characters in fiction; he can be updated, reinvented, pitted against vampires, or reimagined as a mouse, and still the essential qualities of the great detective endure. That's even true in stories where Sherlock Holmes isn't Sherlock Holmes, and that's an idea that Roger Langridge and Andy Hirsch will explore in their upcoming all-ages adventure series The Baker Street Peculiars, from Kaboom, unveiled exclusively here on ComicsAlliance.
In the Baker Street Peculiars, there is no Holmes; the real brains of the operation is his supposed housekeeper, Mrs Hudson. With too many cases to solve, she's brought in some new help in the form of three precocious kids and a dog, for what promises to be a wonderful all-ages action comedy. Roger Langridge, who usually provides his own art for books like Fred the Clown and Abigail and the Snowman, is providing the scripts this time around, joined by artist Andy Hirsch, best known for his work on Adventure Time and his all-ages Western Varmints. Langridge and Hirsch spoke to ComicsAlliance about working together, the idea for the series, and what makes Sherlock Holmes so iconic.

'Ghost in the Shell' Virtual Reality Experience Makes You the Ghost in the Shell
It doesn't seem possible that consumer-friendly virtual reality is on the verge of breaking through the shackles of science fiction and into the real world, but we're entering into a brave new world of immersive interactivity with the release of Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear and even Google Cardboard. While each of those VR platforms has its own strengths and weaknesses, that there are multiple manufacturers vying for your attention in the same space (with more like PlayStation VR, SteamVR and StarVR still to come) speaks volumes about how viable virtual reality has become in the last few years.
Aside from the potential gaming aspects, virtual reality presents some interesting opportunities for narrative immersion as well. We've already seen Star Wars take advantage of that a bit with its recent Jakku tour, but the landscape is wide open for the likes of movies and animation to give fans and viewers an even closer look at the worlds being created on screen. Such is the case with the upcoming Ghost in the Shell VR short, Ghost in the Shell Virtual Reality Diver. Set in the world of Ghost in the Shell: Arise, the short will be an on-rails experience that lets you tag along with Major Kusanagi through some select scenes curated for VR.

As has been heavily rumored since last year, we know that at least part of the Wonder Woman solo film will take place during World War I, a fact supported by the first set photo of Chris Pine and co-star Said Taghmaoui, and reiterated by the latest batch of images from the set of the highly-anticipated solo superhero outing. The new photos reveal what Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince looks like in WWI-era civilian clothing and give us another look at Pine.

Ask Chris #278: Meet DC's Answer to Jessica Jones
Q: Who is the closest DC equivalent to Jessica Jones? -- @charlotteofoz
A: For what I suspect is a pretty obvious reason, this is a question that seems to be going around a lot this week, and it's an interesting one. As much as DC has experimented with it, the publisher has never had a lot of lasting success with street-level looks at how its universe functions. And really, that makes sense when you consider that its most famously gritty urban vigilante is also a billionaire who drives around in a rocket car and hangs out with his friends on the moon.
But there is a pretty good answer, and while I can't take the credit for thinking it up myself, it's definitely one that I agree with. If you're looking for a character to fill that role in the DC Universe, then you're looking for Cameron Chase --- and not just because they both have those alliterative initials.
